The History

1999-2001 Operations Begin

In 1999, eight founding members created Confimprese and nominated Franco Arquati as President.
The Association opened its first headquarters in Milan and launched its operations aimed at supporting franchise companies. Its first steps were the convention with “Sviluppo Italia” (National Agency for investments and company development) and an agreement to cooperate for the Milan “Franchising & Partnership” Fair.

2002-2004 Consolidation of the membership base

Under the presidency of Mario Resca, Confimprese reached a total of 50 associates and opened the new Milan headquarters in Piazza Sant’Ambrogio. Meanwhile, its commitment in institutional relationships grew steadily, and the Association started its convention and publishing activities.

2005-2011 Diversification: New activities start

The Association lands in Rome with its new headquarters in Piazza di Spagna. Two new activities are launched: the Academy, which supports training in retail companies, and Confimprese Lab, the retail observatory focused on: franchise, real estate, travel retail and omni-channel. The first work groups among associates start and agreements are signed with credit institutions for franchise startups.

2012-2018 Communication with institutions

Institutional relations grow more intense, and communication is ever more fruitful. On various occasions, Confimprese takes part in core issues related to retail, such as sales promotions, sales, liberalization of shop-opening hours, recognition of franchise operators and simplification. Confimprese starts a collaboration with ICE (Italian Trade Agency) for the internationalization of Italian retailers. Today Confimprese represents more than 300 commercial brands.
